What is GS1? [#01]
GS1 is a non-profit, international organization that provides unique identification and tracking of products, services and assets with the standards it offers.
GS1 is the abbreviation of One Global System of Standards.
GS1 History [#01]
1969 - Studies were started in the USA with the aim of accelerating the control processes of products.
1973 – (UPC) Universal Product Code is available
1974 – For managing standards (UCC) Uniform Code Council created
1974 – Wrigley Gummies barcode system
1976 – The code structure from 12 digits was increased to 13
1977 – With the participation of 12 countries in Europe (EAN) European Article Numbering Association created
1990 – UCC and EAN signed Cooperation agreement (45 countries)
1999 – RFID For use in Systems (EPC) Electronic Product Code developed
2004 – For master data sharing over the internet by UCC and EAN subsidiaries (GDSN) Global Data Synchronization Network established
2005 – GS1 was introduced to more than 90 countries and the name GS1 began to be used
2018 – Web as a QR Code for the purpose of using unique identification (ID) on products URI Uniform Resource Identifier Structure checked out
There are many standards under GS1 that serve different purposes.
